Cookie Policy

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that websites save on your device. The same rules apply to equivalent technologies such as localStorage and sessionStorage, which ReadNoctis uses to store reading data in your browser.

Legal basis

Necessary technical cookies are installed on the basis of the legitimate interest in providing the requested service (Art. 122 of Legislative Decree 196/2003 and Art. 6.1.f GDPR). All other cookies are installed only with your free, specific and revocable consent (Art. 6.1.a GDPR), in accordance with the Guidelines of the Garante Privacy of 10 June 2021.

Categories of cookies used

CategoryPurposeDurationConsent
NecessaryWebsite operation, security and storing your cookie choice (readnoctis.consent.v1), login session (noctis_session) and an anonymous identifier used to count reads, impressions and likes correctly and prevent them from being faked (noctis_vid).up to 12 monthsnot required
PreferencesThey remember reading settings, the last chapter and display mode.up to 12 monthsrequired
StatisticsAggregate measurement of reads and impressions for calculating authors' compensation.up to 12 monthsrequired
MarketingThird-party cookies from Google AdSense (Google Ireland Limited) and its advertising partners, or from Adsterra when it is the active ad network, including for personalized ads.depends on providerrequired

The Google AdSense script is present on every page to allow site verification and ad delivery, but ads are requested only after you consent to the marketing category: until then you will only see static, non-personalised placeholders. Works marked as 18+ do not show advertising.

Ad blocker check

To find out whether your browser blocks advertising (extensions such as uBlock Origin or AdBlock, browsers such as Brave, tracking protection), the site runs a technical check: it adds a test element to the page and sends a test request to Google's ad server (pagead2.googlesyndication.com), without cookies.

The result ("blocker active" or "no blocker") is kept only in your browser's sessionStorage and is deleted when you close the tab: it is not sent to ReadNoctis or stored on our servers, and it contains no personal data.

The check is needed because the site is funded by advertising, which also pays the authors: if a blocker is active, the catalogue, the works and the blog are unavailable until you turn it off. The Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Terms of use, the "Publish" page and the Author Area always remain accessible.

How to manage or withdraw consent

You can change or withdraw your choices at any time from the preferences panel. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out beforehand.

You can also delete existing cookies and block new ones from your browser settings (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge). Disabling necessary cookies may impair the operation of the site.
